Bodh Gaya (Gaya district)

  • Significance: Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree here (~531 BCE).
  • Mahabodhi Temple Complex:
    • UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    • Built in 3rd century BCE by Emperor Ashoka; renovated in 5th–6th century CE.
    • Houses the Vajrasana (diamond throne) and Bodhi Tree.
  • Other attractions: Great Buddha Statue (80 ft), Tibetan & Japanese monasteries.
