Established in 1974, RITES Limited (Rail India Technical and Economic Service) is a premier Navratna central public sector enterprise under Indian Railways, specializing in multidisciplinary engineering and transport infrastructure consultancy. Originally focused on railway consultancy, it has expanded into airports, highways, ports, and urban planning, delivering over 5,000 projects across 55+ countries. 

 

Key Historical Milestones

  • 1974: Incorporated as a government-owned company to provide consultancy services in rail transport, infrastructure, and technology.
  • 1980s-1990s: Expanded services globally and diversified from pure railway engineering into multi-modal transport, including highways and urban infrastructure.
  • 2002: Achieved Mini Ratna (Category-I) status, recognizing its financial performance and consulting expertise.
  • 2010s: Further expanded into turnkey construction projects (e.g., railway electrification, workshop modernization) and strengthened its role as the export arm for rolling stock (locomotives, coaches).
  • 2016-17: Recorded high-value export orders from Sri Lanka and engaged in significant international projects, such as the Mauritius Metro Express.
  • 2018: Listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) via an Initial Public Offering (IPO).
  • 2020-Present: Attained Navratna status, emphasizing its continued growth in consultancy, leasing, and turnkey projects, including the Ayodhya Dham Railway Station redevelopment.
