National Thermal Power Corporation Limited
Founded on November 7, 1975, as National Thermal Power Corporation Private Limited, NTPC was established to accelerate India's power development, with its first project at Singrauli (1976). It transitioned from a private to a public limited company in 1985, later diversifying from thermal to hydro, renewable energy, and coal mining, officially rebranding as NTPC Limited in 2005.
Key Historical Milestones
- 1975–1980s (Establishment & Early Growth): Set up as a key central public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power. The first Pithead thermal project was approved at Singrauli in 1976, followed by Korba, Ramagundam, and Farakka in the late 70s.
