GAIL (India) Limited, incorporated in August 1984 as Gas Authority of India Ltd, is India's premier state-owned natural gas company. Initially focused on constructing the HVJ pipeline, it evolved from a transmission firm into an integrated energy giant, pioneering CNG distribution (1997), petrochemicals, and renewable energy, earning Maharatna status in 2013.
