Appu Ghar/Oyster Water Park – Haryana

Appu Ghar, India's first amusement park, opened in Delhi on November 19, 1984, to commemorate the 1982 Asian Games. It became a 90s icon, leading to the 1998 launch of its water park arm, O.Y.S.T.E.R.S. After the Delhi park closed in 2008, it reopened in Gurgaon, Haryana, offering water thrills before facing, and overcoming, legal and financial challenges.

Key Highlights of the Story:

  • The Legacy (1984-2008): Founded by IGE (India) Pvt Ltd, Appu Ghar in Delhi was a pioneering 15.5-acre park that became a major tourist destination.
  • Expansion to O.Y.S.T.E.R.S: In 1998, the brand expanded by adding a water park, "O.Y.S.T.E.R.S," featuring a wave pool, rain dance, and slides to beat the summer heat.
  • Closure and Relocation: The original Delhi park closed in 2008 due to a legal ruling repurposing the land.
  • The Gurgaon Era (2014-Present): Appu Ghar returned to the scene in 2014, operating in Gurgaon (Haryana) under the name Oysters Water Park, offering modern rides and a new wave of entertainment.
  • Challenges: The new Haryana venture faced financial, legal, and operational hurdles regarding dues, but remained a significant landmark in NCR.

Oysters Water Park (Appu Ghar) continues to function as a major recreational spot for visitors in Gurgaon, often operating with seasonal water activities and special attractions.
